Notes on the web
I'm Jan Polzer. I write about the web, content management systems and the tools I actually use. New articles appear when there's something worth sharing.
Looking for consistent color profiles for your web site or other projects where you work with graphics? A selection of five colors may not be easy for everyone. A helpful hand is the online application called Kuler from Adobe.
Do you have a website that regularly gets pictures uploaded to? Graphics is a pleasant and necessary complement to text, especially in an event such as writing a guide. Many of today's bloggers have their own idea of how images should look like; Someone just hastily crops images, while some else will carefully work on images, and a third will take screenshots using Windows clippings.
Microsoft operates a large number of projects designed to create new interesting applications for desktop and the web. Most often we hear about the projects from Microsoft Research. There is also a group of employees who operate the activity under the bran Microsoft Office Labs. One of their projects is Speed Launch, which is an interesting tool designed for running programs, documents and opening web pages or searching on the Internet faster.
Anyone who operates a Web site will sooner or later meet with one of the most current head aches – spam in comments. However, there are many ways to prevent it and some solutions allow a fairly simple solution in the form of protection directly on the form to send comments, while other special services are using spam revealing comments.
The new version of Microsoft’s operating system, Windows 7, comes with better built-in functionality for burning the CDs and DVDs. One of its new features is direct burning of the ISO files.
Some interesting projects are emerging from Microsoft Research to my RSS reader every now and then. A few weeks ago an even more interesting program appeared: Microsoft AutoCollage 2008; designed to to create collages of your photographs. If you have some interesting photos from your holidays, just tell the program where they can be found and in a matter of seconds you will create a nice photo from the collage.
A lot of people praise the various extensions available for the Firefox web browser. Firefox is an invaluable tool for Internet enthusiasts and one of the most interesting accessories you can equip it with is the extension called FoxTab. Instead of the ordinary tab switching mechanism, you will be able to switch tabs using a modern 3D environment.
