If you need to take a screenshot in a particular desktop size, forgot about changing the desktop’s resolution. It is not the best way. There is a simple freeware application called Sizer. It is able to change the selected window dimensions and also shows you the current dimensions.
How to change the window’s width and height
Install and run the Sizer. It will stay in the systray as a cross icon. Click to the window you would like to change and right click this icon. You will be prompted with several dimensions, just select one of it and see the result.
You can use the Sizer in the window directly. The first option is to right click the maximize button. The menu with dimensions will appear near your current cursor position:
I like the second resizing option. Right click the bottom right area and you will be prompted with the resizing menu too:
When you drag the windows border you should see a floating help bar displayed by Sizer. There is a short information about the current dimensions. Beside this features you can use the Sizer from the system menu (top left corner of the window).
Sizer settings
If you need more dimensions than just 640 x 480, 800 x 600 or 1 024 x 768, then right click the Sizer’s systray icon and select the Configure Sizer menu item. You will see a new window with dimensions option and other useful settings. Some user could find the Move to feature very useful.
Sizer and Windows Vista
Sizer’s website informs you about incompatibility of the Sizer and Windows Vista operating system. If you will use the installer you can find some problems in Windows Vista 64bit. I chose the ZIP version, unpacked the archive to the computer and started the Sizer without any problems.
So if you are looking for some freeware utility to change the window’s height and width, the Sizer may be the right tool for you.
